Some reviews note that the pub's size can feel cramped during busier times, particularly on weekends when it reaches full capacity. A few patrons have mentioned that the limited drink menu can feel more restricted compared to larger venues. While the food generally receives high marks, a few diners observed that table service may occasionally lag during peak hours, undoubtedly as the staff juggles a bustling atmosphere. Additionally, patrons have commented on the dated decor; while it adds character, some believe it could use a refresh to elevate the overall experience.
A hidden gem describes this place perfectly, it's only a small place, small kitchen and bar but the facilities are more that sufficient. The seating area outside looks perfect for summer and I don't know why it's taken 4 years to come here since moving to the Midlands I don't know. The drinks selection is small but covers everything and the staff are lovely. A mixed grill enough for to feed a family of 4 for under £20, a Sunday roast for £12.50 WITH HOMEMADE GRAVY looks stunning.
Absolutely fantastic Sunday dinner with all the trimmings including cheesy leeks!! Me and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed - not a crumb left in sight! Staff were friendly and it was great with the open fire creating a lovely relaxed atmosphere - definitely took the chill off from the rain!!
What a hidden gem! Set on the canal, decor a little dated, but food and service were excellent. Special shout out to the young barman on his first day.... we weren't the easiest of patrons with one celiac and many demands 😅. He went out of his way to make sure we were happy. Highly recommended for food and good beer.
Came here while on a canal barge holiday, food really good, I had mixed grill and the wife chilli, both lovely. Service good and friendly and would recommend.
Great little pub. Food was excellent, home cooked and tasty with generous portions. Really friendly little place. First time we have used it but will definitely be back.
Very nice pub with friendly staff and good selection of four hand pump real ales and two lagers. Located beside the Ashby Canal and also the A5, so good transport links too, be you a walker or cyclist like me, or by road. Included in the latest CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide, so if you’re an ale enthusiast you know it’s legit.
Went for food and too listen to the live entertainment. Not been since the change of management. High quality food, service and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend. Staff were awesome too.
